Tunk Times #19

August 2026

Greetings from Tunk office. Blueberries are mostly gone and lingonberries are ripening. The mornings are cold here and gloves are sometimes needed, while the afternoons can be hot like a summer's day.

The last few weeks have been pretty good business-wise. In general the interest in Tunk is growing and especially after the Path Less Pedaled review (link) we got a bunch of emails and some actual sales. Nothing huge, but enough to give us a positive feeling about the future of the company. It’s also always fun to get fun emails, we have such nice customers. Feel free to reach out and ask anything, or send feedback, pictures of your tunk-ish bike, fan art, whatever!

Increased sales during the summer means the first batch of frames is running out, with only limited numbers of sizes 53, 55, 57 and 61 left. This means we need to start really thinking about the second run, as it will take 4-6 months from now to get it “on the shelves”.  Just now we had a quick meeting about the possible new colors and decals, and had pretty good agreement on what to do.

The stem project hasn’t gone anywhere. No one still has any great ideas on why it failed, and how it should be improved. We are looking into it. This means also the decaleur is on hold, and with it the handlebar bags.

We are also planning to produce some front lowrider racks and nice simple rear racks, maybe some bags to match. At least we will make some prototypes and see. A dream of the perfect touring bike…

For the culture supplement, I (aki) would like to point you towards the Töölön Pyörä Blög, where I present a Tunk-related article on historical randonneuse bicycles, comparing the philosophies of grandmaster Vélocio (pictured below) to those of Tunk. I might suggest you read some of the other articles there as well, having written many of them myself and them being quite tunkish in quality. You can find it all at toolonpyora.fi/blog
