THE IDEA

A comfortable lightweight steel touring & randonneuring frameset. For all roads and real-world conditions. Thoughtfully scaled classic cyclotouring geometry. A wide size range along with proportionally stiffer construction.

  • 7 different sizes, fitting riders from about 160cm to 200cm in height.
  • Made in Czechia by Fort from a mix of Columbus and Reynolds tubes.
  • Price for the frameset (frame+fork) is 1500 € including VAT 25,5%

SPECIFICATIONS

For speed and comfort under diverse conditions.

  • Tire clearance on all sizes is 48mm max with a 60mm fender. Without fenders about 52mm.
  • Wheel size scales with frame size: size 53 uses 559 wheels. 55,57,59 use 584 wheels and 61,63,65 use 622 wheels.
  • Front-load optimized low-trail steering geometry
  • Mounting points for handlebar bag support, low rider front rack and rear rack. Frame stiffness is optimized for light packing only.
  • Anti-rust primer + powder coat + clear coat. Internal anti-corrosion protection.
  • Frame weight is ~2150 grams for size "59". The 650b size Fork weight is ~850 grams. 622 fork weight is ~1000g.

STANDARDS

Compatibility for proven, reliable parts. Mature bicycle technology.

  • Sizes 53–59 use a 1” threadless headset. sizes 61-65 take 1&1/8” headsets
  • Standard 100mm front and 130mm qr axles

GEOMETRY

The frame is optimized for comfortable long-distance and everyday riding. We recommend a large frame size to get a nice high handlebar position, about level with the saddle. This is the so-called classic “french fit”.

We have also scaled not just the frame but also the wheels. The framesets use 3 different wheel sizes. This makes it possible to avoid many compromises in design.

For choosing the right size and more information on fit, please see the Sizing Guide article.

TUBING

The 7 different frame sizes scale not only in size but with progressive rigidity of the frame and fork tubes. The small sizes use thinner, thus lighter and more flexible tubing. The medium sizes use tubes that are a bit stiffer, and the largest sizes have already considerably heavier tubing.

The colors indicate stiffness progression, green being most flexible, yellow medium and so on. SL, ZONA etc indicate the manufacturers’ model name. The first number below is the tube’s outer diameter in millimeters, and the second number is wall thickness. For example, the top left corner is a Columbus SL top tube with an OD of 25,4mm and butted wall thickness of 0,8mm in the ends and 0,5mm in the middle.
