Tunk Times #16

April 2026

The sun shines sometimes into the pile of brushwood as well, like they say here in Finland. Meaning the feeling is warm and positive for a change! Actual sunshine being a big part of it!

We sold a bunch of frames, got a test bike sent out to Spain and received our batch of 650b rims (which look great). And we got a few events coming up, our own Tunk the Gathering on 9.5. here at headquarters and we also signed up for Fiskars bike expo, that is on 25.4.

At Tunk the Gathering, we will be showing off our bikes and other products, selling some prototypes and parts and just hanging out. Everyone is welcome to join! It’s from 12-18 on Saturday 9.5. here at Isonniitynkatu 5 o, Helsinki.

At Fiskars we will be showing off the bikes and hanging out. (Or Aleksi and Antti will be, me (aki) will be participating in a Randonneurs Finland 300km gravel brevet ride that day, and am only stopping by in Fiskars, as one of the controls happens to be there!)

A short advertisement on our new rims: they look nice, the finishing is not 100% perfect but that is to be expected from a mid-price rim. Fancier options like Pacenti and Velocity cost up to 3 times as much! Ours seem good and look low-key in a good way. I just built up a pair and they came out great. You can see all the details at our webshop: Link to rims

It’s a relief to have the rims, as availability in Europe has been close to non-existent and I’m pretty convinced that has really slowed the sales of the 650b-wheeled framesets. We will be offering complete wheelsets in all 3 sizes in the near future, if you already are interested in some, you can always email us! A pair of rims should fit into the frame shipping box, so frame customers can get the rims shipped for free. Complete wheels need separate shipping.

We also added some small stuff to the webshop: Berthoud saddles, a cheap decent looking steel stem in 80 and 100mm, SON lights and so on. It’s still a work in progress.

There’s also now a Gallery page on our website, with bike pictures. Most of them have been on our Instagram, but now they’re uploaded in proper size and available on our own platform, which is nice. Here’s a direct link

As stated in the previous edition, we are looking for media outlets to work with, by sending out test bikes, even paid advertisements, maybe doing interviews etc. We have a couple of good ones pending, but also got no replies from some and some were too busy to make anything happen. So we are still open for suggestions!

To keep up the art supplement section, here’s a link to an old article by The Retrogrouch about Edward Gorey, an interesting cycling artist that I just discovered. You can find more stuff by them on google as well.
